The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) voted 3–2 to adopt the “Non-Compete Clause Rule,” or the final rule, last week. The final rule states that the use of noncompete agreements is an unfair method of competition and is thus comprehensively banned effective 120 days after the final rule’s publication in the Federal Register. Nurse.com, a community where more than 3 million nurses can connect with peers, apply for jobs, and earn continuing education, has released the 2024 Nurse Salary and Work-Life Report, which provides insights into nurses’ current priorities, challenges, and aspirations related to salary, education, safety, and work culture. For the first time in this biennial survey, nurses were asked about their experiences with workplace violence and how their job affected their mental health and wellness. This revealed concerning trends with 64% of nurses reporting verbal abuse, and 23% reporting physical assault or abuse by a patient or a patient’s family member.

On April 25, 2024, Governor Wes Moore signed into law new legislation prohibiting non-compete and conflict-of-interest clauses for certain veterinary and health care professionals in the state of Maryland. The enactment of this law follows the Federal Trade Commission’s recently announced final rule1 banning non-compete agreements for most employees in the United States.

This cohort study found that for the population without a family history of CRC, the 10-year interval between colonoscopy screenings for individuals with a first colonoscopy with findings negative for CRC could potentially be extended to 15 years. A longer interval between colonoscopy screenings could be beneficial in avoiding unnecessary invasive examinations.

In the nation’s first full year after widespread availability of safe and effective SARS-CoV-2 vaccines to combat COVID-19, U.S. health spending on physician services grew at just a 2.6% rate in 2022. That was down from 7% in 2020, 4.8% in 2021 and 3.9% in the prepandemic year of 2019.

A recent Mayo Clinic study used a mixed methods approach to investigate how operating room (OR) design can support and strengthen the well-being of surgical teams during healthcare delivery. The study analyzed patient flow, room organization and the needs of surgical teams to optimize OR design for functional efficiency and to improve overall mental health.
